Unfounded, not based on facts: Govt reacts to Mallikarjun Kharge's dissent over new CBI chief

New Delhi, Feb 3 (IT): Shortly after senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge sent a letter to Prime Minister Modi expressing his displeasure over Rishi Kumar Shukla being appointed as the new CBI chief, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said said Kharge's dissent was unfounded and not based on facts.

"Whatever is being said by him is totally unfounded and not based on facts. For the selection of CBI Director, a very objective criteria was followed," Jitendra Singh said.

Kharge's letter to PM Narendra Modi questioned why an officer with zero experience in anti-corruption was selected as the new CBI chief.

Kharge, according to sources, wanted Javeed Ahmed to be the next CBI chief who was recently shunted out by the Yogi Government from the post of DGP of UP police.

In a move that may have surprised opposition parties, the Prime Minister Modi-led selection committee on Saturday appointed Rishi Kumar Shukla, a 1983 batch IPS officer, as the new director of Central Bureau of Investigation.

Shukla, a Madhya Pradesh cadre officer, is considered to be close to former CM of MP, Shivraj Singh Chauhan.

Top government sources told India Today TV that Shukla was chosen by the selection panel with a 2:1 ratio. While the Chief Justice of India and Prime Minister voted in favour of Rishi Kumar Shukla as new CBI chief, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge expressed his dissent and voted against Shukla's appointment.

While 80 officers were eligible for the post of CBI director, five names were shortlisted based on experience, integrity and seniority.

A few names including the DG of Gujarat Shivanandan Jha was discussed during the Friday meeting of the selection panel at the PM's residence, but no consensus was reached as some of the officials had inquiries from the vigilance department against them. Some others had other allegations and also according to sources.

Kharge also said he was not ready for an officer of a Gujarat cadre to be the next CBI chief.

1984 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Javeed Ahmed was Joint Director (Policy) at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in 2013-14. CBI insiders claim he led the operation that led to the arrest of a nephew of the then Railway Minister in the UPA which was followed by the resignation of the minister and a public scandal that embarrassed the Government.
It was again during his tenure as JD(P) that the CBI sought more independence from the Government and submitted a report to the Supreme Court giving details of what the agency needed for independent functioning. He is also said to have supervised the CBI raid in the offices of the Birla Group in Delhi, during which cash worth Rs 25 Crore were recovered. Company officials claimed that the amount was meant for distributing Diwali gifts. The case was thereafter handed over to the Income Tax Department.
All these cases embarrassed the then UPA Government.
But on Saturday the Modi Government overlooked Ahmed’s 13 years of work experience in the CBI and appointed Rishi Kumar Shukla as the new CBI Director who has no experience of working in CBI.
Finally, Rishi Kumar Shukla, with no experience in CBI, appointed Director overlooking Javeed Ahmed who has more experience in the same department who exposed UPA scams but ignored because of his religion.
Shukla is believed to be close to several BJP leaders including former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and is known to be sympathetic to the Right-wing. One of the reasons why he was deemed to be a frontrunner was because of his perceived proximity to BJP national president Amit Shah.
From midnight drama ousting Alok Verma to save Rakesh Astana, CBI once caged parrot of BJP is now is forced fed inside the cage so that parrot speaks the same language of the masters.

    why from mp??

Feku wants to protect Shivraj Chuwwa from the scams he has accumulated since 15 years which are coming out on daily basis since Kamalnath took over.

eg. Rs.3000 crores farmers scam exposed by kamalnath.

Moreover, Feku also wants to protect himself and his gang from any investigations, as 2019 is the year of complete downfall of BJP, by nominating someone of lesser calibre .
