Kolkata cops detain CBI officers outside police chief's residence

Kolkata, Feb 3 (IANS): There was a high drama in front of Kolkata police commissioner Rajeev Kumar's official residence on Loudon Street on Sunday as a group CBI officers approached the house, but they were stopped by city police personnel, who also forcibly took the federal probe agency officers to a police station.

The Central Bureau of Investigation officers, led by its deputy superintendent Tathagata Bardhan, were spotted near Kumar's residence around evening, a day after sources in the federal probe agency said they were "looking for" him in connection with its probe into ponzi scheme scam case.

The sources had even claimed that Kumar, a 1989 batch IPS officer, may be arrested in the case if he does not respond to the CBI's summons.

However, on Sunday, within a few minutes of the CBI officers' arrival, some senior Kolkata police officers rushed near the residence and were seen having animated discussions with the CBI team.

A little later, another CBI team reached the spot in another car, while some officers of the probe agency went to the Park Street police station, apparently carrying a letter.

Bardhan, after waiting outside Kumar's residence left for some unknown destination after some time, but said a categoric "no" when asked if they were retreating from the spot.

Meanwhile, a strong city police team was seen near the CBI's state headquarters at CGO Complex in the Salt Lake area.

The drama intensified near Kumar's residence around 7 pm, as three deputy commissioners of city police and some officers of the anti-rowdy section reached the spot.

The discussions between the city police officers and those from the CBI led to some scuffle, following which the local cops were seen bundling the probe agency men into three vehicles which headed for the Shakespeare police station.

Trinamool spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien wondered whether the BJP was planning a "constitutional coup" and said his party would raise the matter in Parliament on Monday.

"BJP planning a constitutional coup? 40 CBI officials surround Kolkata Police Commissioner's home. Destruction of institutions goes on unabated.

"Our demand in #Parliament on Mon. Modi has to go. We are reaching out and sharing this with all Oppn parties who want to #SaveDemocracy," O'Brien tweeted.

When India gained Independence, it continued with the state-centre relationship and division of power as had been established by the British.

The states changed shape in the first two decades. But the system continued all the way until 2014.

Since 2014 the Central government acts as if the states are Centre's possessions.

CBI was established not to bring states to their knees, but to investigate the departments of the Central Government.

Ms Banerjee is absolutely correct on this understanding.

Police Department is under State Government Control and Central Government has to take permission from State Chief Minister to interview, contact or to take action or bring Court order from State High Court to interview, contact or to take action on State Government employee. Modi with his RSS is destroying Federal system of Government and taking us towards disintegration of India into many Independent States like former Soviet Union.

BJP planning a constitutional coup? 40 CBI officials surround Kolkata Police Commissioner’s home. Destruction of institutions goes on unabated.BJP planning a constitutional coup? 40 CBI officials surround Kolkata Police Commissioner’s home. Destruction of institutions goes on unabated.
Prime minister Modi central government has made a complete mockery of democracy and federal structure. A few years back, Modi Ji captured Anti- Corruption Branch of Del govt by sending paramilitary forces. Now, Modi-Shah duo is a threat to India and its democracy.
The highest levels of the BJP leadership are doing the worst kind of political vendetta. Not only are political parties their targets, but they are also misusing power to take control of the police and destroy all institutions.
By targeting Kumar, the BJP appears to be making desperate attempts to discredit the Trinamool government ahead of the crucial polls. One of the reasons behind targeting Kumar through the CBI is to arrest him and coerce him to speak against Banerjee in the chit fund scam. When Mukul Roy, a former trusted lieutenant of Banerjee quit his association with Trinamool to join the BJP, it was only after the CBI had grilled him in the Sharada scam case. There were reports that his arrest was imminent had he not severed ties with Banerjee.
The Trinamool ruled West Bengal has 40 Lok Sabha seats. In 2014 Lok Sabha elections due to 'Love Jihad' controversy in western Uttar Pradesh BJP has won maximum seats due to Jat backing. The present equation doesn't seem to be in favor of a party due to the SP-BSP alliance and Congress using Priyanka trump card. So BJP wanted to make use of losses from West Bengal using illegal Bangladeshi card through caste equation of 'Matua' and 'Boroma' who are dominating electoral forces. In a desperate attempt Modi, Yogi, Amit Shah wanted to land in West Bengal to ignite communal passion.
The caged parrot from midnight drama which ousted Shukla now targets West Bengal.

These CBI agents of 2014 onwards do not find the 2002 Gujrat Riot case so sinister and unresolved with so many retired army and police officer's witness and claim?????????.....
Why this CBI can not investigate Rafale deal as BJP has admitted submitting a fake and false report to SC. Based on this fudged report SC has has given an unjust verdict. But this fake verdict is enough for Chaddi Bhakths to prove BJP is innocent.
BJP lives by Fake and now dying by Fake but people's hardships are True and need Genuine solutions and are fed up with Fekuism.
