Mayawati must pay for jumbo statues: Supreme Court

New Delhi, Feb 8 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Friday said Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati should reimburse the public exchequer the money spent on putting up elephant statues in Lucknow and Noida.

"This is our tentative view that Madam Mayawati reimburse the public exchequer all the money spent on these elephants," Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi said while hearing a plea by Ravi Kant seeking recovery of the amount spent on statues in memorial parks dedicated to BSP founder Kanshi Ram in Uttar Pradesh.

The final hearing will be on April 2.

If the rulebooks of the Supreme Court is justified then 'Gujarat' should bear the cost of Rs3000 crores for Sardar Patel and 'Shivaji' by Maharashtra government.
Even if the Statue of Unity becomes as famous as Taj Mahal, we may need 120 years to break even. The Archaeological Survey of India has over 3600+ monuments under its custody, including 36 world heritage sites. It has to reach out to the private sector to adopt the monuments. In fact, ASI spent more money to build its new headquarters than it did on the conservation of the monuments in 2017.
    Things The Indian Govt Could Have Spent ₹3000 Crores On Instead Of Sardar Patel’s Statue;
    1. Build 5,98,000 school sanitary complexes with proper toilets that remain functional for a while at least.
    2. Fund ISRO's Mars Mission 5 times over.
    3. Increase the relief given to Kerala flood victims 5 times over.
    4. Donate the amount to the entire North-East that is still suffering from heavy floods.
    5. Adopt 725 villages like Donja, which was adopted by Sachin Tendulkar.
    6. Give the salaries of 28,15,533 contractual teachers in government schools. Or increase their salaries, for that matter.
    7. Raise 5,296 children from birth until the age of 21, including educational expenses.
    8. Help the BMC fix the Mumbai pothole situation twice!
    9. Add 449 buses to 1000 electronic buses to run on Delhi streets by 2019.
    10. Double the amount to be received by the Ministry of Earth Sciences according to the 2018 budget.
    11. Two new IIT campuses considering one IIT campus costs Rs 11.67 bn.
    12. Two AIIMS campuses considering one AIIMS cost Rs 11.03 bn.
    13. Five new permanent IIM campuses considering one IIM campus costs Rs 5.39 bn.
    14. Five new solar power plants, each producing 75 megawatts of power considering one power plant costs Rs 5.28 bn.
    15. Six Mars missions considering one mission costs Rs 4.50 bn & three Chandrayaan-2 missions considering one mission costs Rs 8 bn by the ISRO.

As India knows, there are no good terrorists and bad terrorists. Statues are not a sign of progress, but sign of robbery, be it Congress, BJP or BSP.

CONGRATULATIONS TO SUPREME COURT JUDGE'S. It's a right decision and she must pay for the idols. Good example for corrupt leaders to behave themselves and shouldn't waste public money for personal work.

In this case I support the view of the supreme court. However, it should not be limited to Mayawaiti alone.

Chaiwala should pay for sardar patel statue, Maharashtra legislators should pay for Shivaji statue.

Also the proposed statue of George Fernandes has to be built with private funding and not public.

Put an end to this nonsense statue business. Our own Indian brothers and sisters are dying of hunger. Stop this plus the Gau drama. Feed those cows to those who are dying of hunger.

Whoever has made use of public funds to build statues and unwanted things should be ordered to make good the loss. Whether it is Mayawati or Modi or anyone else, the rule should be the same for everybody.

Modi must be ordered to pay for the Patel statue in Gujarat, since he misused public funds for the same too.
