Zee files defamation case against news portal 'The Wire'


New Delhi, Feb 10 (IANS): Zee Media Corp Ltd has filed a criminal defamation case against the Foundation for Independent Journalism which runs the news portal 'The Wire' on charges of publishing defamatory articles.

Zee filed the case through advocate Vijay Aggarwal on February 7 under sections 499, 500, 34 and 109 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the Foundation as well as Gulam Shaik Budan, Anuj Srinivas, M.K. Venu, Siddharth Vardarajan and Sidharth Roshanlal Bhatia.

The case was filed in the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Sumit Anand at the Patiala House Court here.

The offence is punishable with up to two years of imprisonment.

The main allegation in the case is that articles dated January 24, 2019 were published wherein false and defamatory allegations against Zee Media Corp Ltd were levelled.

The next date of hearing is on March 28.

    Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) Chairman Dr Subhash Chandra is BJP's Rajya Sabha member. Chandra has single-handedly created the Essel Group, which has interests in media and entertainment, packaging, infrastructure, education, precious metals, and technology sectors.

    The owner of Zee group and the editor of Zee News were reportedly caught in a case of demanding cash for news from the Congress MP Naveen Jindal... it stung operation and CDs were recovered… and this resulted in FIR being registered against these guys and even went to Judicial custody in Tihar Jail. As per Jindal, they made an extortion demand of Rs 100 crore.

    Ever since it said that Zee News trying hard to prevent Congress from power. In fact, Zee News cannot afford to be neutral anymore else their Tihar days may come back to haunt them since the case is still pending...

    This fake news factory of Zee News in which Nostradamus had predicted the rise of supreme leader Narendus, found the chip in new Rs2000 currency before RBI release is not new it.

    The TV journalist went to JNU in premeditated protest with ABVP understand exposed by former members who shouted 'Pakistan Zindabad' and 'Bharat Thukde Thukde' is now trying to shut 'The Wire' with money and muscle and administrative power.
    I would rather say 'Zee TV' should be tried for sedation for anti-India slogans which it first telecasted in its Channel and fail to prove it to date.
