Ex-Odisha CM's wife likely to rejoin Congress

Bhubaneswar, Feb 12 (IANS): Hema Gamang, a former parliamentarian and wife of former Odisha Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang, is likely to join the Congress again.

She is currently in Delhi to meet senior leaders of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) to discuss her joining.

"I was in the Congress party in the past. I have a good relationship with the senior leaders of Congress. I am in talks with the Congress leadership. There is nothing wrong in rejoining Congress," Hema Gamang told media persons on Tuesday.

It will be a homecoming for the former Lok Sabha member if she rejoins the grand old party.

She had resigned from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) in April last year.

She had joined the regional party just before the Assembly elections in 2014 and unsuccessfully contested as a BJD candidate from Laxmipur constituency.

Her husband and former Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang is currently a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member. He had quit the Congress party in 2015.

Shishir Gamang, her son, is also in the BJP.

Hema Gamang was elected to the 13th Lok Sabha in 1999 on a Congress ticket from Koraput parliamentary constituency.

She was also a Congress MLA from Gunupur assembly constituency in 2004.
