Bengaluru, Feb 12: Criminal investigation department (CID) is said to be on the verge of cracking the case of murder of veteran researcher, Dr M M Kalburgi. This murder case was hanging in limbo since the last three years.

The police say that they are now sure that Vasudev Sooryavamshi, mechanic, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of communist leader from Maharashtra, Govind Pansare, and journalist, Gauri Lankesh, had provided motor bike for Kalburgi's murder just like in the earlier cases.

It is reported that during his interrogation, Sooryvamshi has confessed that Ganesh Miskin alias Mithun and Amit Baddi alias Govind, who have been arrested in connection with Gauri's murder, happen to be the first and second accused in Kalburgi's murder too.

The CID team had brought Sooryavamshi from Mumbai prison with court permission. They grilled Sooryavamshi for ten days. The police team produced him in Dharwad court on Monday February 11. The CID team took him to Mumbai the same evening, it is gathered.

It is said that Sooryavamshi had stolen a motor bike belonging to a man from Hubballi and provided the same to the killers of Kalburgi. After the murder, the killers had visited Maharashtra on the same vehicle. They had handed over the vehicle to another member of their gang, who sold it to a local. This motor bike was impounded by Maharashtra police after finding that it was not backed by documents. Officials said that when the bike was brought here and shown to Sooryavamshi, he identified it.

When Amol Kale sought a motor bike for the murder of Gauri Lankesh, Sooryavamshi had provided him a bike stolen from Davanagere. The police stumbled on the name of Sooryavamshi on the basis of code word, 'mechanic' written in the diary of Amol Kale. Vasudev Sooryavamshi was a mechanic at Jalgaon, Maharashtra. During his questioning by Maharashtra police, he had agreed that he had provided bike for the killing of Govind Pansare, it is learnt.
