Mangaluru: St Agnes College to host training programme on 'Human Rights'

Mangaluru, Feb 13: The Political Science department of St Agnes College (autonomous) on February 18 will hold NHRC sponsored one day training programme on 'Human Rights'.

In order to sensitize students/NGO’s on Basics of Human Rights, the college has taken the initiative to organize a one day training programme on 'Human Rights'.

The objective of the training programme is to acquire NGOs/students/teachers with various issues connected to human rights and to identify atrocities on vulnerable groups as well as to educate the public on respect for human beings through the target group.

The inauguration will begin at 9.30 am at the conference hall of Sofia Block withing the college premises.

Ir will be inaugurated by hon’ble Justice D H Waghela, chairPerson, SHRC, Karnataka (former chief justice High Court of Karnataka, Odissa and Mumbai) and guest of honour Sr Dr Maria Roopa AC, joint secretary, St Agnes Institutions.

Sr Dr M Jeswina AC will preside over the programme.

The valediction will be at 5.00 pm and Kollady Balakrishna Rai, president, Human Rights Federation of India will serve as chief guest. Sr Dr M Venissa AC will preside over the valedictory session.

    "Human Rights" training program for the Students of St. Agnes is a marvelous idea. Let the students, young and old, male or female, learn each one's basic rights as human beings, as Citizens and even as students so that each and everyone of them will grow up and prosper by contributing the best for themselves and for the benefit of others that surround them.

    As we travel so many countries, developed as well as under-developed, rich as well as poor, we often observe how ignorant so many people are in this world about other people and other countries. So many people of so many countries are totally not aware how basic democracy prevails in so many countries, specially in a country such as India where we have nearly 1400 million people in twentysix States with more than twenty official languages.

    India's cultural values, religious values and many other values that enable us to prevail day after day and manage our life so peacefully and progressively is a fact that we as Indians have to feel proud of ourselves. Let our schools teach all the students our basic Human Rights so that we all can give back the very best to our nation and make India a "Great Country". Dhanyawadh.
