New Delhi: General Election Dates yet to be finalized: CEC

New Delhi, Jan 30: In the backdrop of a statement made by the election commissioner S Y Qureshi at a programme held on Tuesday january 27 evening in India House, London, that the general election would be held between April and May 15 this year, Chief  Election Commissioner(CEC) of India N Gopalaswami clarified, that the commission is yet to meet to discuss the election dates.

The process of fixing dates for the election will be set in motion by holding discussions with various political parties on February 3, he added.  On February 4, discussions will be held with the state chief election commissioners, while the commission will meet the director generals of police of states along with respective chief secretaries.  After these meetings, more meetings have been lined up on February 6. "We may consider fixing of election dates only after these meetings," he said.
