SC rejects PIL challenging interim Budget

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Monday rejected a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging the presentation of the interim Budget by the Modi government in the just concluded last session of the 16th Lok Sabha.

The bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna dismissed the plea after the petitioner lawyer Manohar Lal Sharma argued that there was no provision in the Constitution of an outgoing Lok Sabha taking away the jurisdiction of the coming Lok Sabha.

There was nothing of the sort, the court said even as the petitioner lawyer said that only the 17th Lok Sabha could deal with the budget for the coming financial year.
