Oppn criticises PM Modi over 'grand welcome' to Saudi crown prince

New Delhi, Feb 20(PTI): Slamming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for receiving Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the airport, the Congress on Wednesday asked whether according a "grand welcome" to those who praised Pakistan's "anti-terror" efforts was his way of remembering the Pulwama attack martyrs.

In a special gesture, Prime Minister Modi received Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the airport on Tuesday night.

"National interests v/s Modiji's 'hugplomacy' breaking protocol, grand welcome to those who pledged USD 20 billion to Pakistan and praised Pakistan's 'anti-terror' efforts. Is it ur way of remembering martyrs of Pulwama?" Congress's chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said on Twitter tagging photographs of Modi hugging the crown prince and sharing a laugh at the airport.

Surjewala also urged the Prime Minister to "show courage" and ask Saudi Arabia to undo its joint statement with Pakistan in which they called for avoiding "politicisation" of the UN listing regime at a time when India was stepping up efforts to brand the JeM terror group's chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.

"Modiji, is asking for a terrorist to be designated as such politicisation of UN listings? Would you show courage to ask Saudi Arabia to undo their 'Joint Statement' with Pak virtually rejecting India's demand for designating Masood Azhar as a 'global terrorist'?" he said.

The Crown Prince arrived in India last night on a less than 30-hour visit, a day after concluding his high-profile tour of Pakistan where he said the dialogue was the only way to resolve "outstanding issues" between India and Pakistan.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed a slew of investment agreements worth USD 20 billion on Sunday. The Crown Prince's visit comes days after a Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed's suicide bomber killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force personnel.

I strongly condemn the attitude of Congress towards MBS who has a favorable attitude towards india.

India is a country that sided with Saddam Hussein who invaded Kuwait in August 1990.

We have not forgotten that either.

Though I supporter of Congress, I didn't expect from Congress doing politics here. Then what should modi do to welcome the guest. Does he should send his driver to receive him. Height of stupidity

That is India's hospitality to welcome the guest. Didn't expect this from u congress.

If Rahul was in Modis place. He would have done the same thing

It's a grave insult to our slain soldiers and thier families while our flag is flying half mast as mark of respect and grief towards the sacrifice of our martyered soldiers. The whole world is aware and mourning and showing solidarity with India but BJP govt in the centre. Our PM himself receiving that guest without any sign of sorrow, instead of sending a person equal to the status of incoming guest. Having normal interaction with the guest as if nothing has happened and enjoying his company who has gifted $20 B to Pakistan a terrorist country to fuel more hostile activities towards India. BJP people talk, preach and find fault in others about ethics and morality but they themselves do not observe and practice.

Saudi Crown Prince is equivalent to PM in other countries. Agree that he shouldn't have been accorded grand welcome when our country is mourning the death of our soldiers.

You can't really blame him, for, whenever he runs into a foreigner (with the exception of MA) he gets this irresistible urge to hug.

Any Diplomat for that matter will have to be accorded a welcome .Lets say even if Paki PM comes India has to show the diplomacy. Oppns is desperate for issue, as Rafale is forgotten, and Priyanka Vadras over hyped launch is not heading the right direction. She has already resigned to fate.

If we are not going to give him grand welcome whether he will build promised oil refinery in India. So hug is required. Sushma Swaraj went and met Irani foreign minister who ruffled feathers with Saudi & UAE. So government needed soothing efforts as the support to Pakistan by Saudi & UAE is negating Iran's comments. India is slowly playing in the divide between the Shia-Sunni ideology and countries , which is dangerous to India itself in the long term

Of course it is really pain full..., all this are probably since 2014..., coz the political narratives are such that, who ever talk the bitter truth..., they are called anti-nationals.., dongi's, anti- hindu's etc.., etc.,

There no action against Mehul Bhai who throw his Hindustani passport on the face of the govt., who went to enjoy his life in antigua beaches after looting poor Hindustani's money...,

Once we able to replace EVM with ballot paper things may start getting better.....!!!
