Manali, Kalpa see more snowfall


Shimla, Feb 21 (IANS): More snowfall in the tourist resorts of Manali, Kalpa and higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh in the past 24 hours kept the temperatures below freezing point, a weatherman said on Thursday.

Manali, which saw 11 cm of snow, recorded a low of minus 1.4 degrees Celsius, whereas Kalpa, some 250 km from Shimla, saw 14 cm of snow. Kalpa recorded the minimum temperature at minus 2.4 degrees.

Keylong, headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti, was the coldest place in the state recording a minimum temperature of minus 6.8 degrees Celsius.

Shimla, which saw 11.7 mm rain, recorded the night temperature of 4.2 degrees, while it was 3.2 degrees in Dharamsala, which saw 18.2 mm rainfall.

Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded 51.2 mm rainfall, highest in the state.

The weather official said the higher reaches of Lahaul and Spiti, Chamba, Kinnaur and Kullu districts had mild to moderate snow.

The Met Office in Shimla has forecast more snow and rain in the state till Friday.
