Jubail, Feb 3: The annual gathering of AMACO cricket team members, their families, and supporters, was held at Ar Razi beach camp, recently. The gathering celebrated the spectacular success achieved by AMACO cricketers in the year 2008.
Thanzeel Hussein, the player of the year, was awarded a free return ticket to his hometown Mangalore. All the members of the cricket team were given mementos in recognition of their excellent performance and team work. Games and activities made the evening a fun-filled one. Activities were also arranged separately for the women. All this was followed by a sumptuous dinner.
In 2008, AMACO cricketers emerged champions in all aspects of cricket in Saudi Arabia. Many records, achievements, and memorable instances in the history of expatriate cricket in Saudi Arabia, were notched up this year.
Of the nine tournaments the team participated in, AMACO won five and finished runners-up on two occasions. The first victory was at AJCA trophy tournament held in January 2008. Then the AMACO team, led by captain Asif went on to win the SISCO Cup—2008, and the prestigious DCA Cup beating the powerful Blue Star team along the way.
The AMACO Challengers trophy organized under flood lights and sponsored by AMACO, Jubail, and considered the biggest cricketing event in Saudi Arabia, was also won by the team. This was followed by a win at the Muzain Victory Trophy. AMACO cricketers were the runners-up at Dywidag Season ball and MRI.
