LG listed Delhi government's achievements during Budget Session


New Delhi, Feb 22 (IANS): Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal on Friday listed the achievements of the state government saying it is committed to the welfare of the people and its actions have added impetus to the development process in the city.

Delivering his speech at the beginning of the Delhi Assembly's Budget Session, Baijal said the city has achieved significant economic progress and contributed 4.14 per cent in the GDP of the nation during 2018-19.

He also said that the per capita income of Delhi is indicating a growth of 11.11 per cent.

"In 2018-19, the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) is estimated to be Rs 7,79,652 crore, registering a growth of 12.98 per cent," Baijal said.

"While the economy of the state has flourished, it is imperative that all sections of the population become beneficiaries of this growth. The growth has to be inclusive to uplift the conditions of the weaker sections of the population," he said.

Speaking about the education sector, he said a number of initiatives have been taken by the government to improve the sector.

"Pre-primary and primary classes have been given a big boost with the introduction of nursery classes in 149 Sarvodaya Vidyalayas, this has resulted in 301 schools with nursery classes," LG asserted.

"To strengthen the school infrastructure, construction of 31 new school buildings have been started. The government has approved construction of 12,700 additional class rooms in existing schools for increased access to education and to achieve the ideal pupil-teacher ratio," said Baijal.

Speaking on health care, he said the government is committed to provide preventive, promotive and curative health care services to the citizens of Delhi.

He spoke about the initiatives of the government in the fields of water, electricity, road and transport.

Initiatives in the field of environment, door-step delivery of services the other welfare schemes were also mentioned in his speech.
