Haryana issues directions for safety of Kashmiris

Chandigarh, Feb 24 (IANS): The Haryana Police on Sunday issued directions to prevent acts of violence, discrimination and other coercive acts against Kashmiris, including students enrolled with various educational institutions, and other minorities in the state.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Mohammed Akil said a written communication had been issued to all commissioners and district superintendents and superintendents of police and others to take all possible steps to ensure the safety and security of Kashmiri students, traders and persons of Kashmiri origin following the February 14 Pulwama terror attack.

"They have been directed to take prompt and necessary action to prevent incidents of assault, threat, social boycott and such other egregious acts against them," Akil said in a statement here.

"Deployment of police force at strategic locations has been made with a view to maintain peace, law and order and harmony," he said.

"The entire security apparatus is being kept at high alert and strict action must be taken against anybody found indulging in disruptive activities or taking law in his hands," he added.
