Hijack attempt of Dubai-bound plane foiled in Bangladesh : Reports

Dhaka, Feb 24(AFP): All passengers on board a Dubai-bound Bangladesh Biman plane are safe after Bangladeshi security forces foiled a hijack attempt by a lone suspect on Sunday, a senior air force official said.

"We have successfully rescued everyone," said Air Vice Marshall Mofid, who goes by one name, after security forces stormed the plane and arrested a 25-year-old man for attempting to hijack flight BG147 which had taken off from the capital Dhaka.

The plane landed safely at Chittagong airport in southeastern Bangladesh, where the passengers were evacuated.

Mofid told reporters that the hijacker claimed he had a pistol, but he had since been taken into custody and is being questioned.

Army, Navy and elite police cordoned off the plane after it landed.

The country's civil aviation chief Nayeem Hasan earlier said the suspect had claimed to have a bomb.

"From the talks and dialogue we have with him, it seems he is psychologically deranged," Hasan said after the man was arrested.

Agreed our training is lousy, but can you tell us how 9/11 happened in a country like US of A , how could the highjackers carry weapons past security? Why did the intelligence fail?

    Hat,

Prior to 9/11, in US , plane doors of the cockpit were never closed ...in fact Pilot called one of the hijackers inside cabin when he told the Flight attendant he was a student of flying school...

Weapons used were paper cutter's … which were allowed inside the aircraft at that time...

US is an open society....if you say you are a doctor or medical student … doctors easily show you hospital...we call this phenomenon as Shadowing … seeing a patient along with doctor but not touching the patient...never heard this term in India or elsewhere...

Now we have learnt our lessons...see now if anybody will succeed in high jacking any plane from an US airport...

    ...Tak...Takk...

So an estimated 13 number of terrorists successfully highjacked 4 airplanes (and later crashed them) using paper cutters as arms on the same day making use of the loopholes that you have mentioned. But before an operation of this magnitude is implemented, a lot of planning, scheming, communication and funds transfers must have taken place. How come the super efficient intelligence agencies of the one and only super power with all the technology at her disposal missed all of this ? In fact there were two calls from Afghanistan to SA intercepted by NSA on 10th Sept, with texts ' Zero hour is tomorrow' and 'Match begins tomorrow' but were translated by NSA on 12th Sept. A typical case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted!
