Dubai, Feb 6: Mogaveers UAE one of the popular communities from coastal Karnataka celebrated their first anniversary in Deira Sheraton Dubai on 6th February, 2009. The programme started sharp at 10 am with cutting of the ribbon and inauguration by Dr. G. Shankar a Rajyotsava Awardee from Government of Karnataka and a proud Mogaveera by himself was the Guest of Honour along with Dr. J.R. Gangaramani, Pravasi Bharati Awardee from Government of India.
The Chief Guest was Consul General of India in Dubai, Venu Rajamony. Other guests included Dinesh Kunder, Inspector of Customs, Mangalore International Airport and coach of Olympian Poovamma, Keshav Kunder, Anand and Bhoja Kanchan.
Dinesh Kanchan, Goverdhan Karkera, Megnath Suvarna and Kamal Bangera were welcoming the guests at the main entrance. Santosh Karkera was attending at the registration counter registering new members alongwith Dhananjay Kanchan and Purshottam Suvarna at the entry door receiving the guests. The traditional welcome to the guests by the ladies with 'Kalasa, rose water sprinkling really took us back to our home town.
The stage also was well decorated with tender coconuts, baloons and nice setting with a big boat and fish around.
Shashidhar Surathkal and Laxmi ivited the guests for lighting the lamp and opening the celebration. This was followed by prayer by Dharmaraj, Deepak, Laxmi and Nalini.
Other guests present were leaders of various organisations such as Umesh Kuckian of Billawas Dubai, Sarvotham Shetty President of Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi and also Convenor of Bunts Dubai & Tulu Koota UAE, Dr. Yousuf of Beary Cultural Association, Noel Almeida President of Sharjah Karnataka Sangha, Shantaram Achar of Vishwakarma Sangha, Dr.Kapu, Muloor, Pravin Shetty of Fortune Hotel, Ganesh Rai Ex-President Sharjah Karnataka Sangha, Shankar Kotian of Al Ain Karnataka Sangha, Harish Kotian of Muscat Mogaveer, Mr.Pradeep Kumar Mulki of Bahrain Mogaveers.
L.V. Puthranm President of Mogaveers Dubai welcomed the guests with chanting of Sloka. Himself a practitioner of Yoga, briefed the importance of Yoga in daily life and also said that all him committee members are being compensated to practice Yoga in their daily life in order to serve the community in a good manner.
Honouring the guests was again done in a professional way by the leaders of Community. First and foremost Dr. G. Shanker of Shanker Family Trust was honoured for his good service to the community. Shanker spoke about his childhood difficulties and how he landed up in a small village far off from his home town, how he lost his touch of tulu language and adopted Kannada language to earn his living. He spoke in Kannadaa and briefed about the activities of his trust which has gained a big name in the community, state and India as a whole. He promised all help to his community both moral and financial whenever called for.
Followed by felicitation to Dr. J.R.Ganagaramani the Pravasi Bharathi Awardee by Government of India recently who spoke about his association with Mogaveers and Kohli communities in special. He shared his experience about how fishermen take risk in the high seas to fetch fish to the society in general. He was touched by the felicitation and said that it reminded him of his wedding day.
Then Dinesh Kunder another guest from India who is not only a sportsman by himself but also a coach who have produced an olympian for national team. He serves as a Inspector of Customs Mangalore Airport, Kunder was also felicitated and honoured. He spoke in Kannada and touched the hearts of audience. He said Mogaveers were the first to have an institution 107 years ago. He spoke about G. Shanker and his good deeds to
the community, the opening of Maternity Hospital which is free for the poor. He became emotional as he spoke about the draw backs of the community and the politics.
It was HE Indian Consul General Venu Rajamony who was felicitated next and who opened his speech in Kannada with a grand applause from the audience.
In response to the honour he said he is very happy to attend the event and wished Mogaveers on the occassion. He also said he was touched by seeing all the activities and decor in a pure traditional way. He said other communities should follow this and maintain our tradition alive.
In his speech he talked about the origin of Mogaveer community which dates back to 2nd century AD and was mentioning about Harivamsha origins.
He too stated that how Mogaveers take to their dangerous family tradition and risk their lives in order to serve the society.
Others felicitated were Bhoja B. Kanchan, Shanker Kotian, Keshav Kunder who was the first one to speak in Tulu. All were felicitated with shawls, flower bouquets and fruits by the Committee Members of Mogaveer UAE.
Guests from other community and sponsors were welcomed with flowers bouquets. They are Sarvotham Shetty, Umesh Kuckian, Ganesh Rai, Noel Almeida, Pravin Shetty, S.S. Rao, Ashok Kumar Shetty, Lancy Martha, Satish Poojary, Sudharshan Hegde, Ashok Anchan, Prakash Rao Payyaar, Premananda Shetty, Krishna Poojary, Shantaram Achar, Mohd. Kapu, Gopi Kamath, Navin Sequeira, Sujay Bendore, Shodhan Prasad and Satish Ullal.
This indeed showed how Mogaveers are touching the hearts of other community and treat all as one family.
Ganesh Rai spoke about the rich tradition of Mogaveer Community and gave flash back of the origin of Mogaveers.
The cultural entertainment programme started in the morning with various skit called 'Ganapathy Gey Aane Mukha bhanda kathey' and various Kannada songs and dance items. This continued later with a beautiful dance by ladies and gents of the community who presented a nice dance called 'Kadala Maghe' which got a good round of applause from the audience. All shouted 'once more'. This dance had a black boat with men seated and fishing, women carrying baskets of fish on their head all took the audience back to the coastal of Karnataka. Followed by this was a beautiful song rendered by a couple and then children dance and skit on cricket. The 'denna dennana' dance item by the very talented group got a good round of applause from the audience.
It was Padmashree Award winner Dr. B.R. Shetty's entry which gave a grace to the function and the audience really forgot the hunger. B.R. Shetty was honoured and felicitated by L.V.Puthran who spoke about the greatness of Shetty to the mankind. He also referred to Shetty's childhood days and that he had not only studied in Mogaveer School but was also the School Pupil Leader of the school. Shetty gave a heart touching speech and also gave tips on how to come out of the present recession. He was thanked by Puthran for helping the Mogaveer community with a Hospital back home also for all
the help he renders to the society in general.
A sumptuous and delicious wide buffet was served for all the invitees and people enjoyed it even though it was late.
The second part of the noon was with photo session followed by Prize distribution. Then was a skit presentation named 'Senana Kithapathi' and 'Appana Maga'.
The programme continued with various other dances in Hindi, Tamil and Kannada songs by talented members of the community. Then there was a great 'Body Building Show' by Karan and Prashanth which was a special attraction of the day.
All the cultural programme were so nicely and professionally performed as if they are straight from the Bollywood. Special mention to the kids and ladies of the community. The whole function did not give a little clue of armature performers. Totally it was agreed that the organisers concluded the show in a professional manner.

A valentine day special dance was presented by the talented members of Mogaveers UAE Committee.
The total programme was well lead by the Master of Ceremony, Shashidhar Suratkal, Laxmi Bala Salian, Mohit and Sujaya in their unique style.
Vote of thanks was done by Yadav Kotian General Secretary of Mogaveers UAE, who concluded the programme.
