Showed might, but want peace: Pakistan admits to strikes across LoC

Islamabad, Feb 27 (PTI): Pakistan on Wednesday claimed that it shot down two Indian military aircraft over Pakistani air space and arrested two pilots.

However, there was no official confirmation from the Indian government.

In a 46-second video released by the Pakistan Army, a blindfolded man claimed that he's IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan. "I am an IAF officer. My service No is 27981," the man said in the video. However, the veracity of the video could not be ascertained.

Pakistani military spokesperson Major General Asif Ghafoor claimed that two IAF pilots were arrested. One pilot is injured and has been shifted to a hospital, while another one is unhurt, the spokesman added. The spokesman also showed items and documents of the arrested pilots. Addressing a press conference, he said one of the aircraft crashed in Pakistan occupied Kashmir while the other fell in Jammu and Kashmir.

"This morning PAF (Pakistan Air Force) jets while remaining in Pakistani airspace engaged six targets across the LoC," he said. "Our pilots locked on those six targets and we struck on open places," he said, adding that it was decided that the PAF will not hit military targets.

He said some of the targets were in Bhimber galli and Naran area where the supply depots were engaged from a distance. "After the PAF strikes, 2 IAF jets entered Pakistani airspace and the PAF took them on and the two IAF were shot down. The wreckage of one (aircraft) fell inside Pakistan (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) while the second fell inside India," Ghafoor said.

"Original targets were military posts and administrative facilities but we did not target those," he said. The spokesman claimed that target engaged by the PAF were changed to avoid any loss of life.

"It was not retaliation in the true sense but it was an action to show that we can retaliate. We do not want to push the region to war. We want peace," the spokesman said.

He also rejected reports that Pakistan used F-16 fighters and one of them was destroyed.

"Pakistan does not want to go for war, our message is peace. The international community should also play it role," the spokesman said. "What we did today is in self-defence. We do not want to celebrate it, as war is victory of none as only humanity loses in war," he said.

He said war is also a failure of policy. "We do not want to escalate. We want to follow the path to peace," he said, adding that the people of both countries and the region should live in pace. "If you want peace then let us talk. No issue can be resolved through war. India should think about this offer with a cool mind," he added.

Pkistan and India are well advisedto avoid all SABRE rattling and Jingoism as any mis calculation can lead to situation going out of control resulting in Mutally Assured Destruction as both India and Pakistan have nuclear weapons.

The Indian Agriculture minister must send a thank you note to PAF, for dropping those bombs on some barren areas close to the border. Their action thus will save a lot of time for our farmers based there as they will not have to spend time ploughing those areas to plant seeds. I am sure due to this help from PAF, next year we will have good crops in these areas.

Very peaceful comment indeed. When a chain snatcher snatches a chain from your sister and tries an escape, you stand still, rejoice the wellbeing of each other. Good.

We are here for few years. What is the use of spending it with conflicts every day???. Earn one's daily bread. Take care of one's family. Finally depart peacefully. It is beneficial for one's own life and the lives of all others. Wrong ways & means will never yield. Become good, and good will prosper all over the world. Thank you and God bless each and every one of us.

From terrorism, terrorist training base, proxy war now expecting and talking in terms of peace with India. Cannot believe these trouble makers. They want to serve both the purpose war & peace with one go. Must have been pressurized by UN and world community not to escalate further. Let us wait and watch how India will react. If no war good for both the countries but there should be lasting solution.

There is a solution but both the countries do not want peace I believe. Let pakistan keep the POK part with them, and India will have Kashmir under our side. Let both maintain status co. and agree on this in order to prevail peace. This can be done only through dialogue not through hate and war.

I do not know why these Kashmiris want to go with Pakistan or to have indiependent state, in fact they get everything from our government on subsidized rate, whether it is food items or Electricity, everything is subsidized in Kashmir.
