BJP politicising armed forces' sacrifices: Opposition

New Delhi, Feb 27 (IANS): Amid the rising Indo-Pak tensions, the Opposition on Wednesday condemned the ruling BJPs "blatant politicisation" of the armed forces sacrifices and also criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not convening an all-party meeting.

Representatives of 21 opposition parties, including Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and CPI-M General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, met in the aftermath of the February 14 Pulwama terror attack and the subsequent Indian Air Force (IAF) strike on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) training camp in Balakot in Pakistan.

In a joint statement, they "expressed deep anguish over the blatant politicisation of sacrifices made by the armed forces by leaders of the ruling party."

"National security must transcend narrow political considerations," they said, adding the Prime Minister has, regrettably, not convened an-all party meeting as per the established practice in our democracy.

They also condemned the dastardly Pulwama terror attack by Pakistan-sponsored JeM and lauded the action taken by the IAF against the terrorist camp on Tuesday and praised the Indian Armed Forces for their valour and bravery.

The leaders also expressed concern on the emerging security situation.

With the Ministry of External Affairs confirming targeting of Indian military installations and loss of one fighter aircraft, they condemned the Pakistani misadventure and expressed deep concern for the safety of missing pilot.

The leaders urged the Modi government to take the nation into confidence on all measures to protect India's sovereignty, unity and integrity.

At this juncture of sad state of affairs in the country, the govt should behave as a "national" govt, not as a party govt. Instead of dwelling on the activities of winning elections, it should concentrate on defeating the enemy, Pak and its nefarious activities. Instead of celebrating the single events of air strike, the army should be given due protection of the govt through diplomatic channels.

He went on to say that the Narendra Modi government instead of resolving the Kashmir issue is trying to make the people of Kashmir “enemies”.
What’s happening now is to create a communal divide by promoting anti-Muslim feeling. Out of the apprehension of losing elections, the BJP is trying to create a fear in the minds of people and creating a war situation.
And a piece of advice to our opposition parties. They should stop dreaming of forming the government. They should accept the reality. They should write to the election commission to defer the election for another five years and let the RSS/BJP alliance rule the roost till all the national agenda is successfully achieved.BJP has very triumphantly played its trump card. All other political parties from the opposition have been dwarfed in the race for nationalism and patriotism.
Is it not true that it is the second time that Jaish-e-Mohammad has come to the rescue of RSS-BJP rulers?

Why you bothered about others belief. The real issue here raised is; we want our pilot back, who has been captured by Pakistani soldiers. What Ravi, Mangalore had raised the issue, is genuine. Please do not bring politics here
