Gloom in family of pilot in Pakistani custody

Chennai, Feb 27 (IANS): The parents of Wing Commander Varthaman Abhinandan were engulfed by gloom after coming to know that their son had been taken into custody in Pakistan.

When IANS contacted his father, retired Air Marshal Simhakutty Varthaman, over telephone, he declined to speak. The distressed family lives in Chennai's outskirts.

Like his father, Abhinandan chose the Indian Air Force (IAF) and was commissioned into service in 2004.

His father was once the Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command.

Simhakutty Varthaman had shared his knowledge about the air force to film director Mani Ratnam for his Tamil movie "Kaatru Veliyidai" where the hero, an air force pilot, is captured by the Pakistan Army.

A person known to Simhakutty Varthaman told IANS: "I know the senior Varthaman. He is a nice person. I have not met Abhinandan. I know he is married."

Our prayers for the speedy release of our pilot from Pakistanee soil. Also hope both countries leave the path of confrontation and resolve issues through dialogue. War is not the answer and on one's soil any form of terrorism should not allowed.

Really sad for the brave pilot Abhinandan. Hope he will be released soon. The govt should put pressure through diplomatic channels for his release. Can't imagine the harrowing experience he is undergoing now at the hands of the enemy.

Very sad...instead of enemies, our fighter planes kills pilots. Whilst our government is concerned over 15 plus year old vehicles on roads and ordered to send them to scrapyard....but playing risky game with 20 plus year old fighter planes...

The Wing Commander Varthaman Abhinandan is held captive by Pakistan and BJP's paarty president Amit Shah Uses Indian Airstrikes to Appeal to Voters in UP's Ghazipur.
This after the BJP repeatedly asked the opposition to refrain from using the Pulwama attack for political gains.
We are on the brink of a war that nobody in their right mind in either Pakistan or India want. Imran Khan's words should be welcomed. Encourage dialogue, commit to de-escalation. Anyone who thinks otherwise should for a moment swap places with Abhinandan & his family.
The only war that Pakistan and India should fight should be against poverty, illiteracy, and violence.

Feeling very sad for Pilot Capt. Varthaman, in enemy Pakistan custody.
Overjoy and too much of publicity yesterday and claiming credit brought all bad luck.

Sad to see the video of the captured pilot getting beaten with hands & legs which is against the Vienna Convention, he was later paraded in front of media to prove they've got a trophy.
The decision of PM was hailed in all media yesterday for the success which is not yet confirmed with the exaggerated casualties like we have seen in the past about aadhaar saving billions without any data or proof too.
Now will PM take responsibility for the capture & torture of our brave fighter pilot?
He was quiet for 7 days when Pulwama massacre was happening while shooting for a video despite getting the information, but quick to jump to claim the success as his rather than that of the Air Force.
India needs a leader who can for see every eventuality instead of knee jerk reactionary of present taking only credit & not owning debacles or failures.

Someone want to win the election at the cost of our Jawans!
Center had received intelligence input prior to attack, but government ignored the warning, did not take any precautionary measures. Secondly turned down the CRPF request to airlift jawans. A proper investigation required and the guilty to be punished for the carelessness.

Mr Rakesh, when Indian pilots attacked the enemy, then lot of people told here that it was IAF , it's true no doubt on that. If a MIG pilot is caught unfortunately chasing the F16 intrusion then it is also IAF,. We tried to do our best and unfortunate things do happen. Don't blame anybody. We pray and hope he comes back. Modi said he will pay the enemy for harbouring terrorists. He is saying on behalf of all Indians. There are people here talking that we should beg Pak to return. However, when Masood Azhar and some other terrorists were exchanged for 166 indians, there were lot of people here that India surrendered meekly.
