DAC nod to acquisition of three cadet training ships


New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) chaired by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday approved acquisition of three cadet training ships for the Indian Navy at a cost of about Rs 2,700 crore.

These ships would be utilised to provide basic sea training for officer cadets including women officer undertrainees, an official release said.

They would also be capable of undertaking hospital ship duties, providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, undertaking search and rescue (SAR) missions and non-combatant evacuation operations.
