Has Bengal withdrawn Ayushman Bharat? Not confirmed

New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): The Centre has not received any official confirmation from the Mamata Banerjee government regarding the withdrawal of the Ayushman Bharat scheme from West Bengal, CEO Indu Bhushan said on Thursday.

"Out of 36 states, 33 states have signed MoUs and 29 states have implemented it as well. We are not aware of West Bengal, as they have not given an official confirmation on the withdrawal," the health scheme chief said this at The Ayushman Bharat Conclave here.

In January, Banerjee announced that her state has withdrawn from the Ayushman Bharat-PMJAY scheme. Three other states - Delhi, Telangana and Odisha - have also stayed away from implementing the central health scheme.

The Central government, too, wrote to the state saying that around 60 lakh families would suffer due to the state's decision.

Banerjee's decision came after the Prime Minister sent out letters to the beneficiaries with only his pictures on them. Banerjee claimed that her state was contributing 40 per cent to the scheme and hence should be properly represented.
