Indian pilot to be freed on Friday as 'peace gesture', says Pak PM Imran

Islamabad, Feb 28 (IANS): The captured Indian Air Force (IAF) pilot will be freed on Friday "as a peace gesture", Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced on Thursday.

Addressing a joint session of the National Assembly, Khan said the India-Pakistan situation should not "get out of hand" otherwise "Pakistan will have to retaliate", the Dawn reported.

"Countries are ruined because of miscalculation," said Khan. Alleging "war hysteria" in India, he said: "I'm afraid there might be a miscalculation.

"War is not a solution. If India takes any action, we will have to retaliate."

The joint session of Parliament was called to discuss the rising tensions with India.

"The only purpose of our strike (on India on Wednesday) was to demonstrate our capability and will," said the Prime Minister. "We did not want to inflict any casualty on India as we wanted to act in a responsible manner."

He said he tried to call Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the telephone on Wednesday because "escalation is not in our interests nor in India's".

Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman of the IAF was captured by Pakistanis on Wednesday after his MiG was shot down and fell in Pakistani territory during a dogfight.

I am relieved that Pakistan has decided to release Abhinandan. It is a good gesture and should be appreciated by all peace loving people. People might argue that Imran Khan was scared and decided to release our Pilot. That is quite possible. But I am happy that this is a big step towards defusing the tension. Let us look at the positives and work towards peace. War is certainly not a solution and should be avoided at any cost. I shudder to think of the consequences should a war break out.

    People,

If Paki's release the captured Pilot and take verifiable action against Masood Azhar...give some time to Imran Khan to act ... and meanwhile retire all existing MIG 21 from Airforce along with Airforce chief and replace MIG 21 with Rafale, F 35 like modern 4G aircrafts...

After Russian S-400 Missile defense system is deployed. in 2020 ...perhaps Pookis won't be able to intrude our airspace without being shot down ...I believe we deploy Russian S-400 MDS in 2020...

Meanwhile use this time to tame Kashmiri's with firm hand by cancelling article 370 from Indian Constitution...which is root cause for all Kashmir problems...

When we are fully ready...still terrorists camps exist in Pakistan ..then bomb them all...

Before we go to other's house to fix them...first we should fix our own house that is Kashmiri terrorists ...Indian performance in this regard is extremely poor!!!!!!….

Modi was wrong to support Mehbooba Mufti in forming Government...that is one of the main reason for Kashmir situation now...

Don't do "Yuddha kale Shastrabyasam"...be fully ready to hit Pakistan in 2020 and if we are really fully ready ….Pookis will themselves close their terrorist shops...

    ...Tak...Takk...

We need to resolve this issue, not make the sitiuation worst. I welcome Khan's decision to release Abhi to the benefit of people of India and Pakistan.

Thank you Imran for the kind gesture. Well played. But, remember that you still owe us 89,999. We had released 90,000 paki soldiers during Bangladesh war. All of them. Not a single dead soldier which shows they were well looked after in spite of the large numbers. In fact the Indian army saved quite a few from lynching by the mukti bahini. I still think Imran is a Zaban ka admi and we should shake his hand.

As Per peace of gesture or policy of International war
The rules protecting prisoners of war (POWs) are specific and were first detailed in the 1929 Geneva Convention. They were refined in the third 1949 Geneva Convention, following the lessons of World War II, as well as in Additional Protocol I of 1977.
POWs must be treated humanely in all circumstances. They are protected against any act of violence, as well as against intimidation, insults, and public curiosity. IHL also defines minimum conditions of detention covering such issues as accommodation, food, clothing, hygiene and medical care.

The good gesture shown by PM of Pakistan by releasing the pilot, should be appreciated. Hatred leads no where except destruction.

Imran Khan, the PM of Pakistan, has just few months back took that chair and he has already given the olive branch of peace to India. On 14th Feb, when the Pulwara attack too place and more than 40 soldiers died, during the day, our PM is busy shooting for the election photoshot. Today afternoon 28th Feb, when the Country wants PM at Delhi, he is busy election canvass.

Neither Imran Khan nor any politician in Pakistan can do anything about the ISI's support to terrorists. Therefore do not blame him or the civil society there. The country is under the complete control of the Military and has been so for most part of its existence. The only way for the military in Pakistan to remain relevant is by creating and maintaining the bogey of India. If peace were to prevail between Indian and Pakistan, the military will lose its relevance and the military leaders and their families who have been enjoying lavish 5 star life styles in mansions and large estates will lose everything. Do you think they will ever allow such a thing to happen? There is plenty of cannon fodder available amongst the poor impoverished populace who are brainwashed and trained to be terrorists and create mayhem in India. The Pakistan military also knows that it could never win a conventional war against India and that they would be thrashed and humiliated. Therefore until and unless the military is reined in, in Pakistan, I don't think there is any chance for peace between our two countries.

Pakistan currently is in a very precarious financial situation,

Saudi and UAE have promised to help. The Saudi FM was in Pakistan today, with a message from MBS.

Imran's hands are tied. More so by the domestic financial crisis than anything else. Saudis too are bery keen to uproot any terrorism in the neighbourhood.

So, for now it is India 1, Pakistan 0.

Before ranting nonsense just look at Modi's rallies with the pictures of the martyrs in the background. Listen to Amit Shah's speeches at rallies yesterday and listen to what Yeddi the chaddi said yesterday that his party colleague and ex soldier V K Singh had to say about it. The 21 parties did the right thing by reminding the government that our armed forces belong to the nation and safeguard the nation and are not the BJP's private army. With some application of mind you will understand who is trying to politicize the situation and gain electoral advantage through the blood and sweat of our armed forces.

Unfortunately our ruling party trying hard to take more mileage out of the situation.. May God give brain to think!
Those families of our brave soldiers not sleeping from many days worried of the safe return of their family member.. Many idiots , TV anchors and Keyboard warriors typing and enjoying news like IPL .... War is not a video or computer game... our soldiers are humans and they too have families to take care..
Lets act responsibly.. with maturity and common sense.

That was total goof up, the erstwhile PM Vajapayee came to know about the highjack after one hour! The pilot giving excuse of shortage of fuel had landed the plane at Amrithsar hoping that government would execute commando operation, or at put one truck on the runway and block the take off, but alas nobody took decision, after an hour flight had to be taken to Lahore then to Dubai and finally to Kandahar where exchange took place and if the rumors to be believed, along with terrorists a very large amount of ransom also had been paid.

While Congress cancels all their speeches, rallies and meetings, our PM is still shamelessly rallying, campaigning and giving speeches. People may blame Congress for their incompetence when they were in power, but Congress is showing more class right now at the time, during tension at the border.

Pakistan is jacked in its right place. Not ONE country is backing them up. If this pilot is kept for long its a shame for them. Anyways its a victory for India.
