Who is the lady who accompanied WC Abhinandan during the handover at Wagah?

New Delhi, Mar 2: Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was under the custody of Pakistan for three days was handed over to India at 9.20 pm on Friday, March 1 at the Wagha border. He was accompanied by Pakistani officials and a lady. As Abhinandan was stepping into the land on Indian side, the public were curious to know the identity of the lady who was accompanying him.

The lady, who accompanied Wing Commander Abhinandan, is none other than Dr Fariha Bugti, Director for Indian affairs at the Foreign office of Pakistan. Dr Bugti is an FSP (equivalent to India's IFS) officer and is in charge of handling India affairs at their Foreign office (counterpart of India's Ministry of External Affairs).

Dr Fariha is one of the chief officer, who handles the issues related to India and is handling the case of Kulbhushan Jadhav, former officer of Indian Navy, who is under arrest in Pakistan now. When Jadhav's wife and mother met him in Islamabad in 2017, Dr Farih was present during the meeting.

Dr Bugti also attended the hearing of Jadhav case, which took place in Hague of Netherland. She started her professional career in 2005 in the foreign affairs ministery of Pakistan and also worked as spokesperson of foreign ministry in 2007.
