New Delhi, Mar 3: Sonchiriya, directed by Abhishek Chaubey, may have gained a positive response from the critics but struggles to collect big numbers at the Box office. Its first-day collection was merely around Rs. 1.20 Crores. Second-day collection too did not create much of a difference. Comparing the star cast, stage and setting that this movie boasts about is not worth the money it is collecting.
There could be a few reasons for this low collection. Firstly, Sonchiriya attracts a niche audience and it also opened to a limited screen which counted to only 720. The release date of the movie clashed with Lukka Chuppi which stars Karthik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles; has opened with a fairly good amount of Rs. 8.01 Crores as compared to Sonchiriya. Seeing the graph rate, this movie is expected to collect around 4 Crores during the weekend.
Receiving a positive response from the film critics and getting an IMDb rating of 7.9, this movie, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Bhumi Pednekar in lead roles with other quality and fine actors such as Manoj Bajpayee, Ashutosh Rana and Ranvir Shorey thought to bring a huge success almost similar to Gangs of Wasseypur. The director, producer and actors never would have thought to get such a response at the Box office.
Exclusively shot in the Chambal Ghati of Madhya Pradesh, is a dacoit based movie which also exquisitely draws attention on caste and gender discrimination which is still present among the people dwelling in small villages of Madhya Pradesh. This film is competing with Lukka Chuppi which is a romantic comedy and illustrate how Indian people perceive themselves with the live-in relationship.
This weekend would be really crucial for the film with limited screens. As this film attracts the only niche audience it would be a tough competition with a romantic comedy which has opened its first day with a bang. Not only this, but Sonchiriya also faces competition with already released Blockbuster movie Gully boy, which is on its third week and still grossing a good amount at the Box office. Gully Boy has been written and directed by Zoya Akhtar has stirred an awesome response not only from the critics but also from the audience as it tells a tale about a Muslim boy who dreams to become a famous Rapper and his struggles during the course of his journey.
