Beltangady: People bid adieu to former Union minister Dhananjay Kumar

Beltangady, Mar 5: The mortal remains of former central minister V Dhananjay Kumar, who died in Mangaluru on Monday, February 4, were consigned to flames in his native place of Venoor near here on Tuesday.

Dhananjay Kumar’s body was brought to Venoor around 12 pm. After it was circled around the Basadi which is in Melina Pete of Venoor, the mortal remains were taken to his house Panjalabailu Mane of Moodukodi village near the Venoor market in a procession.

The last rites were conducted as per the Jain tradition at his home. Later Dhananjay Kumar’s body was kept on the funeral pyre made in the nearby paddy field. It was consigned to flames by his son and brother at 1.35 pm.

Before the body was consigned to flames it was given state honour. The police personnel saluted the mortal remains and three rounds were fired in the air as a mark of respect to the departed leader.

Minister U T Khader, former ministers Abhaya Chandra Jain, Ramanath Rai, former legislators Vasant Bangera, Ganesh Karnik, Dr Mohan Alva of Moodbidri, Pratapsimha Nayak, Dr B Yashoverma, deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil, SP Sandeep Patil, AC Dr Krishnamurthy, Tahsildar Ganapati Shastri, circle inspector Sandesh, SI S H Nagaraj, taluk panchayat member Vijaya Gowda, Zilla panchayat member Dharanendra Kumar, eminent personalities of Venoor and public paid their last respects during the final rites.

The shops and establishments were closed for some time in Kelagina Pete of Venoor as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
