Sitharaman sticks to Foreign Secy's remark on Balakot casualty

Chennai, Mar 5 (IANS): Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday said the central government's stand on the number of terrorists killed in the Indian Air Force (IAF) bombing of terror camps in Balakot is what the Foreign Secretary had stated earlier.

"The Indian government's stand on the casualty figure is the same as that of the Foreign Secretary's statement," she said.

Sitharaman also denied link between the air attack on Pakistan terror camps and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Speaking to reporters, Sitharaman said India's Foreign Secretary did not give out any casualty number in his statement made after the IAF attack on the terror camps.

The Defence Minister said India had given proof of terror camps to the Pakistan government, but it did not take any action.

After the Pulwama attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) troopers were killed and there was information of terrorists planning another attack. Therefore, the IAF destroyed the terror camps in Balakot, said the minister.

Clarifying that the IAF strike on terror camps was not a military action, the Defence Minister said the IAF destroyed terror camps and nobody else was injured in the attack.

The army and the air force haven’t said anything. They haven’t said that they took down 300-400 targets. We had Sambit Patra from the BJP, first say 300 then he said 400. I am now beginning to wonder whether there’s a need to demonstrate evidence. That’s the question. Nobody is questioning the army. A question to a BJP minister doesn’t become a question to the army.

BJP President Amit Shah had on Sunday claimed that the Indian air strikes killed more than 250 terrorists in Balakot. Air Force Chief Air Marshal BS Dhanoa, when asked, had told reporters in Coimbatore that he was not in a position to verify that claim. His deputy Air Vice Marshal RGK Kapoor too had said that it was premature to confirm any number of casualties.

Most of the world the joint unit command spokesperson in open press briefing address the media and takes the questions. Only in Prime Minister Modi's India, the defense operations are first telecasted by the paid television channels using copy-paste editing the wars from the rest of the world.

Stop politicizing the army for your political motives. The army is as sacred as the state! Stop deflecting the real issues, they will come back to haunt you. Job loss; Black money; 1708 terrorist acts; NPAs; Farmer Suicides.
Deceit possesses our land in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy.

If there were no casualties from where she can furnish figures. Instead they made us to believe 300 odd terrorists were killed through their paid media..!!!! Most of the uneducated populace of India and Modi Bhakths believes in those figures. BJP's vote garnering motive is fulfilled by wasting 10000 Kg of bombs.....!!!!!???? Who cares about the money spent just for election gimmicks....!!!!!!????
