Pakistan tried to scuttle India's OIC invitation

New Delhi, Marc 6 (IANS): Pakistan tried its best to scuttle the invitation to India for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) plenary, but it was not withdrawn by host UAE and other countries like Saudi Arabia, informed sources said here. The grouping had sent a clear and positive sign to the people of India, they added.

In a first for India, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj addressed the OIC plenary in Abu Dhabi last Friday.

Sources noted the invitation was historic and the signal was to take it forward and embrace India as a member one day.

There was no mention of Jammu and Kashmir in OIC's Abu Dhabi Declaration.

Sources said anti-India resolutions were tabled at the OIC only by one country and they were passed without discussion.

Pakistan, they said, was isolated this year and was painted in a corner as the plenary was attended by every other member of OIC except it.

India was keen to participate in the plenary to take forward its interactions with other members of OIC.

Sources said OIC was looking at a different narrative on J&K from that given by Pakistan.
