Congress Demands CBI Probe
Through a statement, the district Congress has asked the state Governor Rameshwar Thakur to hand over the probe into the incidents leading to the suicide of minor student Ashwini Kulal to the Central Bureau of Investigation. It has also asked him to get a report on the murders, suicides and other atrocities that are routinely occurring in this part of the state and initiate suitable steps.
The government, by supporting the public assaults, atrocities on women, attack on churches, objections on Valentine's Day celebrations etc., indulged in by organizations like Bajrang Dal and Sri Rama Sena which are running a parrellel government, has violated constitution. The state home minister has ushered in an era of fear and apprehension in the minds of the people of the coastal districts. The state government has been policitizing every issue by terming everything as routine, district vice president of Congress Ivan D'Souza said, warning that the Congress will strongly fight against such injustices.
The district Congress Committee has urged the Governor to depute an independent officer to investigate the above incident and warn the government for its failure to manage the situation. It alleged, that the Sangh Parivar and Bajrang Dal are responsible for Ashwini's death and hence, demanded for a CBI probe. It has also complained that the local police have been acting hand-in-glove with the state government in illegal activities.
