Udupi: DC bans traffic on Agumbe Ghat road from March 19 due to repairs

Udupi, Mar 8: Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati issued a notification banning traffic via Agumbe Ghats for necessary repairs. The traffic here will remain banned from March 19 onwards for a period of thirty days.

There have been landslides in several places due to heavy rains on 169A Thirthahalli-Udupi road between July 10 and 13 last year and a portion of the road has been damaged. As approval for the repairs project has been obtained and permanent repairs have to be taken up, DC had banned traffic on the road from March 1 to March 31 and asked to use alternative routes.

The revised notification dated February 28 states that as PUC students have annual examinations from March 1 till March 18, and the students have to travel via Hebri-Agumbe-Sringeri road for the examinations, now the traffic is banned on this road from March 19 for thirty days. Alternative route is arranged for traffic during the period.

Light vehicles such as small buses, Jeeps, Vans, LCV mini vans and two wheelers will have to travel via Udupi-Karkala-Malaghat-Sringeri-Koppa-Thirthahalli NH 169 and heavy vehicles such as Rajahamsa, Airavata buses and private luxury buses, bullet tankers, fish cargo containers and long chassis vehicles are asked to ply via Udupi-Kundapur-Siddapur-Hosangadi-Mastikatte-Thirthahalli state highway 52. She asked not to ply banned vehicles on roads so that work may not be disrupted. Suitable sign boards will be installed on the roads to direct traffic.
