Mangaluru, Mar 9: The city police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, in response to a complaint from a citizen that illegal sand transportation is taking place to Kerala through Devipura road ahead of Talapady tollgate, promised to look into the matter and deploy police personnel as requested to stop the same.

City police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, took part in the police phone-in programme held at his office on Friday March 8.

The commissioner also assured that steps would be taken against sand trucks that move about inside the city without covering the sand with tarpaulin, and also against trucks which obstruct movement of pedestrians on the footpaths.

In response to the complaint that vendors and goods vehicles on the footpaths have been resulting in lack of space for other vehicles to park, he asked the officials to undertake operation to clear such obstacles. Patil also assured to serve notice on people who heap construction materials on main roads in the city.

A woman caller complained that vehicles of a prestigious educational institution in the city have been carrying children in excess of sanctioned capacity, and requested that documents of such vehicles should be checked apart from issuing warning. The commissioner said that necessary steps would be undertaken. On the issue of young people riding two-wheelers on Kadri Road by violating traffic rules, and about the suspicion that these youngsters might be under the influence of drugs, the commissioner assured that CCTV camera footage would be checked and cases would be registered against those found guilty.

Some citizens from Mannagudda said that traffic police have not been properly filing cases against traffic violators. They said that as compared to last year, traffic-related cases this year have come down, as per the information they got under Right to Information Act.

The commissioner said that during the towing operation, the vehicles are handed over to jurisdictional police stations. As the police control rooms are informed immediately after towing the vehicles, owners or drives of vehicles can call police control room (0824 - 2220800) and obtain information, he added. He said that so far tint has been removed from 2,500 vehicles, 143 cases were registered during the last one week, and 106 vehicles were towed away during the last week.

Deputy commissioners of police, Uma Prashanth and Hanumantharaya, and assistant commissioners of police, Manjunath Shetty and Vinay Gaonkar were present.

With limited parking space available for 4 wheelers, it is not sensible to allow two wheelers to take away such space that too by haphazard parking. Police should remove such two wheelers forcibly from 4 wheeler parking place or fine them heavily.

Politically Connected people are doing the transportation in broad daylight. Due to this price of sand has been aritificiallly increased . For common people it's as good as paying a 'premium' which goes to somebody's pocket.
Our sand should only be for local Use to build things. Not in some place else just to feed the greed. Really sad to see that people who are supposed to help us are enriching themselves without concerning the consequences.
