Imran Khan has penchant for speaking on India's internal affairs: MEA

New Delhi, Mar 10 (IANS): India on Saturday said Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has a "penchant" for issuing statements on the internal affairs of India and urged the neighbouring country to look inwards and try to fix many of its own problems.

Responding to a question about Khan's reported remarks that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a divisive leader, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that it is part of Pakistani narrative to deflect the attention, take the focus elsewhere and especially when they come under pressure on the matter of counter-terrorism or taking action against terror groups.

"So they start commenting on things which has nothing to do with Pakistan. I think you are well aware as to how minorities are treated in Pakistan and in whatever index you take, in terms of treatment of minorities they are always at the bottom or very close to the bottom.

"So for them to lecture us as to how our minorities should be treated is amusing. I think they should rather try to fix problems in their home and they have plenty of problems. So let them look inwards and try to fix many of the problems which they have at this point at home."

Kumar also referred to the External Affairs Ministry's statement last month on Khan's remarks.

"Pakistani Prime Minister has this penchant for issuing statements on the internal affairs of India and I think we have issued a statement sometimes in early February on very similar issue when again he commented on something which was very internal to India," he said.
