Bantwal, Mar 11: The officials of town municipality have removed the banners that were put up, on account of the Brahmakalashotsava of Polali Sri Rajarajeshwari temple, at B C Road near here on the morning of Monday, March 11.

The officials cited that the display of these banners are against the Election Code of Conduct (ECC) that is implemented by the Election Commission from the evening of Sunday, March 11.

However, the devotees of the temple and public objected to this action of the town municipality officials. This lead to verbal spat between the officials and the public for some time.

The people who gathered on the spot, where the banners are displayed, warned the officials that “These banners are not displayed for any political propaganda. These banners are put up as part of Brahmakalashotsava of the historically famous temple of Sri Rajarajeshwari. In addition, this festivity is going to end in another three days. So the banners should not be removed.”

SI Chandrashekhar of Bantwal city police station, who arrived on the spot during the verbal spat that was going on between the public and the town municipality officials, took control of the situation and prevented the issue from going out of limits. The public contacted the deputy commissioner over telephone and the banner removal activity is held up temporarily.

What's wrong in displaying banner pertaining to non-political celebration? Display of temple or any banner pertaining to religious celebration should be permitted as long as these do not give publicity to any party or candidate; but ought to be removed if name of any political VIP, party or candidate is found mentioned on it.
