Udupi, Mar 12: Milagres College, Kallianpur celebrated College Day on Friday March 8 at Milagres Tri-centenary hall.
Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza, correspondent of Milagres College presided over the occasion. Fr Fred Mascarenhas, former principal of Milagres College was the chief guest.
Jayaprakash Shetty, alumnus and chairman and managing director of Shambuji Group of companies, Mumbai was guest of honour.
Dr Vincent Alva, principal of Milagres College, Dr Surekha, staff secretary, student welfare council directors, Prof Annamma and Dr Herald Monis, managing committee member Dr Neri Cornelio, Melwin Sequeira, president of Student Welfare Council, Prajwal and secretary Lukman Hakim were present on the dais.
The programme began with an Abraham Lincoln song. Women's Day was celebrated in a special manner.
The college Newsletter 'Voice of Milagres' was released by the president Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza.
The college annual report was presented by the principal along with a video presentation.
Prof Subrahmanya Joshi, former HOD of Chemistry who retired on October was felicitated.
Kavya Pai of final BSc. expressed her gratitude to Prof Subrahmanya Joshi on behalf of all the students. Joseph Peter Fernandes from the department of Chemistry spoke on behalf of the staff. Prof Melwin C Rego read the certificate of Appreciation.
Pradeesh, NCC cadet was honoured on the occasion. Sports achievers who participated in national, state level competition were felicitated by Jayaprakash Shetty, the guest of honour. Endowment scholarships were distributed and the rank holder of MSW department, Usha K was honoured.
Fr Fred Mascarenhas advised the students to be disciplined and to gain knowledge not only through social media but also from teachers.
Guest of honour, Jayaprakash Shetty in his address encouraged the students to come out of their comfort zone and to face all challenges in life.
In his presidential speech Fr Dr Lawrence C D’Souza appreciated the principal, Dr Vincent Alva for innovative implementation of activities in the college.
Secretary of student welfare council, Lukman Hakim proposed the vote of thanks.
Sofiya of final BSc and Aral D’Souza of final BCA compered the formal programme.
After lunch, a cultural programme was performed.
