10 BSF companies to reach Bengal for poll duty on Friday

Kolkata, Mar 12 (IANS): Ten companies of Border Security Force (BSF) will reach West Bengal on Friday for deployment in the state ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, an official said here on Tuesday.

"Ten companies of the BSF will reach the state on Friday and will be deployed in various districts and vulnerable pockets," Additional Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, Sanjay Basu told reporters.

"The identification of vulnerable hamlets is almost complete, but there is still time to ascertain the number. Hence, particular districts or areas for deployment of central forces have not been finalised yet," he said.

At an all-party meeting on Monday, political parties complained that the 'cVigil' app, launched by the EC to create a fast-track complaint reception and redressal, was yet to go live even after announcement of the election dates.

"The 'cVigil' app, which was not functional due to technical issues, has gone live today (Tuesday). As many as 86 complaints have been received. Of this, 47 have been dropped," Basu said.

He explained that people might be checking the app and thus some of the complaints got dropped.

"I can say we have not received grave complaints yet. Most of them are related to defacement of various places. The flying squad is monitoring all violations of the 'model code of conduct' and other works are in process," Basu said.
