Ex-NBA star to receives Israeli citizenship


Jerusalem, Mar 13 (IANS): Former American NBA star Amar'e Stoudemire, currently with Hapoel Jerusalem club, will receive Israeli citizenship, Minister of Interior Aryeh Deri has announced.

Stoudemire submitted an application for citizenship on February 10, about two weeks after he was approved as a resident of Israel, the Minister said on Tuesday.

Deri said Stoudemire is one of the greatest athletes to play in Israel. He wants to tie his fate with Israel, Xinhua news agency reported.

The 36-year-old was with the NBA since 2002 with the Phoenix Suns, New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat. He joined Hapoel in 2016.
