Delhi government's exhibition postponed

New Delhi, Mar 13 (IANS): An exhibition of contemporary women artists, organised by the Sahitya Kala Parishad -- the cultural wing of the Delhi government -- was postponed due to an "unforeseen administrative reason" hours before its opening on Wednesday.

A note from the Parishad read: "It may kindly be noted that the programme, VAMA 2019, scheduled today onwards (March 13-19), has been postponed due to unforeseen administrative reason. Further details will be informed shortly."

It was to be inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at 6.30 p.m. but then the cancellation information came, around two hours before the opening.

It was to open at the Shridharani Gallery of Triveni Kala Sangam.

While the Parishad's Deputy Secretary refused to comment beyond the above-cited reason, the exhibition's coordinator told IANS that it has something to do with the Election Commission's Model Code of Conduct, which came into force on March 10.

The seven-day exhibition, publicised as the "Delhi Government's Women's Day Celebration through Art" was to showcase works of art by established and young women artists.

Also lined up were interactive sessions with an array of senior artists including Arpana Caur, Gogi Saroj Pal, Vasundhara Tiwari Broota and others.

'Vama' was started by the Parishad five years ago with the objective to showcase and promote artworks by women.
