85,000 disabled voters get registered in Haryana

Chandigarh, Mar 13 (IANS): Nearly 85,000 disabled voters in Haryana have got themselves registered on the PwD mobile app of the Election Commission (EC), the state's Chief Electoral Officer Rajeev Ranjan said here on Wednesday.

Through this app, disabled voters would be provided transport from residence to polling station, besides ensuring facilities like ramp, drinking water, lights, wheel chair and ballot paper/braille voter slip, Ranjan said.

Ranjan said for the first time, the commission has launched PwD mobile app to provide maximum facilities for disabled voters.

The CEO said eligible citizens, who are 18 years old or above as on January 1, 2019, and have not been registered, can apply by April 12 to get it done.

He said the Commission has given special facility to students to get themselves registered with the poll panel. "Students living in hostel or as tenants and have no proof of residence can get themselves registered with the recommendation of the head of their institutions," he said.

Voting in Haryana for 10 Lok Sabha seats will take place on May 12.
