Stranded traffic moves on Jammu-Srinagar highway

Jammu, Mar 15 (IANS): No fresh traffic will be allowed to move on the Jammu-Srinagar highway on Friday unless all stranded traffic is cleared, an official said.

Stranded vehicles only towards Jammu to Srinagar has been allowed at this point, he added.

Frequent landslides and shooting stones have considerably narrowed down the highway at many places, especially in the Ramban-Ramsoo sector.

Traffic jams have been holding up travellers for hours. This has prompted the authorities to carry out the particular measures on the nearly 300-km long highway.

Closures of the strategic highway have resulted in shortages of essential commodities in the Kashmir Valley during the winter season.
