London, Feb 21: Wine drinkers beware! A new study has claimed that sipping just a small goblet of wine every day can more than double the risk of cancer.

The study by France’s National Cancer Institute (INCA) says that consuming just a 125ml glass of wine increases the chance of developing mouth and throat cancer by 168%, Daily Mail reported.

Other cancers are also more likely to strike regular drinkers, the study claimed. The INCA study warned that consumption of alcohol is associated with an increase in the risk of cancers — mouth, larynx, esophagus, colon-rectum, and breast cancer.

Please donot give the common people more stress by inventing such things.Nowadays eating anything has become a risk. If the wine drinking is a risk, then the priest should be aware of this. But from years our priests are drinking wine everyday but i have not heard anybody having such problem. but precaution is better than cure, what you say?

Anybody writing issues on cancer should do so, only after through investigation, in order not to instill unnecessary fear in the minds of the people. Cancer cells are prevalent in every persons body, and they multiply and become cancerous, when the immune system of the body is unable to destroy them. Though blame is put on quite a number of beverages, foods, mental stress environment etc, no one can pin point and say, these are the ones which will cause cancer. Only the one`s who have experienced cancer can throw light on this subject and not, anyone else.

This report is incomplete as it does not cite where the study was reported ( in Science/ journal ). As wine contains 15 % or less of V/V alcohol content, it is unlikely to cause this 168% increase in cancer rate. Country spirit or alcohol with higerh percentage, is more likely to damage the mucosal lining and cause oral related cancers.

Coming to breast cancer - there may be a a defenite link with alcohol consumtion, smoking and taking contraceptives in combination along with high meat/fat consumption and sedentary life style. Wine and oral cancer? no ! I dont think so!
