New Delhi, Mar 18: PM Modi's 'Main Bhi Chowkidar' campaign has turned out to be a new tool for the opposition to criticise him ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls.
In contrary to Modi's claims that people were just as much as watchman as the PM himself, the opposition has criticised Modi for being the chowkidar of business tycoons who left the country after cheating.
Fatima Nafees, mother of Najeeb Ahmed who disappeared under mysterious circumstances also lashed out at Modi. In a tweet, Nafees asked, "If you are a chowkidar, then tell me where is my son Najeeb? Why ABVP goons not arrested? Why three top agencies failed to find my son?" along with a hashtag that read #WhereIsNajeeb.
The CBI told the court that it found no foul play in Najeeb's disappearance. However, Nafees maintains that the case was wrapped up due to political pressure.
It may be recalled that, Najeeb Ahmed, a 27-year-old Biotechnology student, went missing from the Mahi-Mandvi hostel after a clash with a group of ABVP students on October 15, 2016. The nine students named in the complaint denied all allegations related to his disappearance, and the Delhi High Court declined Nafees' request for a Special Investigation Team to monitor the probe.
It was post 2014 Lok Sabha polls PM Modi has referred to himself as a chowkidar of national interests. He has been claiming that he has been chosen as chowkidar by the people of India since then. Just like his chaiwala campaign during 2014 polls, Modi on Saturday launched a similar campaign 'Mai Bhi Chowkidar'.
However, the campaign has backfired with several opposition parties taking potshots at the PM.
