Notice to Centre on YSRCP's plea alleging phone-tapping

New Delhi, Mar 19 (IANS): The Delhi High Court on Tuesday asked the Central and Andhra Pradesh governments to respond to the plea by the YSR Congress Party leaders alleging that their phones were being tapped.

Justice Sangita Dhingra Sehgal asked Ministries of Telecommunication and Home Affairs, and Andhra's Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary, Home, to file response on the plea and listed the matter for further hearing on April 15.

The court was hearing the plea filed by party's former parliamentarian Y.V. Subba Reddy and five others, including party chief Jaganmohan Reddy's personal and political assistants, alleging "illegal technical surveillance" and seeking the court's direction to authorities concerned to forthwith end it.

They have also sought necessary legal action against those concerned, and asked the court to seek an explanation in what circumstances they were put under surveillance.

Subba Reddy told the court they had, in December 2018, made a representation to the Union Home Ministry over alleged surveillance. But the authorities have neither responded nor taken any action on the matter, he claimed.
