Holi celebrated in traditional styles in Uttarakhand

Dehradun, Mar 22 (IANS): Holi, the festival of colours, was celebrated on Thursday in Uttarakhand with enthusiasm with people throwing gulal and colours at each other and distributing sweets.

In the hills of Garhwal and Kumaon, Holi, which marks the victory of goodness and virtue over evil, was celebrated in traditional styles with people in groups organising functions, comprising local dances and songs wearing colourful attires.

From morning, revellers thronged the streets and visited friends and relatives to extend Holi greetings and smear each other with colours, as children hurled water balloons at each other.

In different areas of the state capital, people organised community feasts to celebrate the festival.

Governor Baby Rani Maurya and Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat also played Holi and greeted people on the occasion.

According to the police, no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state.
