Gurgaon, Feb 27: A 50-year-old businesswoman from DLF phase-II has alleged that a "spiritual guru'', whose ashram is in Karol Bagh, raped her repeatedly between August 2007 and January 2009, and duped her of over Rs 5 lakh during the same period.
An FIR under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to a woman with the intent to outrage her modesty), 376 (punishment for rape) and 384 (punishment for extortion) of IPC was lodged at DLF Phase-II police station on Wednesday. A district court had directed the cops to lodge a complaint against the baba.
On why she kept silent all these years, the woman said that she was probably in trance and could not muster the courage to report against him. "This year when he raped me again on January 7, I decided to break my silence. I approached cops but they did not register a case. After all my efforts to convince the cops to lodge a complaint went in vain, I approached district court which on Saturday directed the police to register an FIR,'' said the woman, who is not married.
Police said that the accused will be arrested soon. "We are verifying statements given by the victim and will arrest the accused soon,'' said Sumit Kuhar, ACP, east Gurgaon.
Narrating how she got in touch with the accused, the victim said: "My garment export company was posting huge losses. It was then that my friends suggested that I should seek help from some spiritual guru. A cousin gave me the address of this baba and I went to meet him in July 2007 for the first time.''
On how she started giving baba the money, the woman said: "He told me that my business would never recover after seeing my horoscope and asked me to invest money with him. He promised me huge returns and said that many others had benefited from it.''
On how she was repeatedly raped, the 50-year-old said that the baba always offered her some drink. "After consuming it, I felt intoxicated and would pass out. In August 2007, he raped me for the first time but I was too shocked and numb to go to the police. That was a mistake on my part. It encouraged him to visit my place where also he raped me many times. He would even ask me to meet him outside and would assault me. Everytime he would ask me to keep quiet and when I said that I will complain against him, he would threaten me,'' the victim said.
She wants harshest punishment for the baba. "Money can be earned again but he has bruised my body and soul and that can't be compensated. He should be hanged,'' she said.
