Contractual worker goes missing in Hooghly


Kolkata, Mar 24 (IANS): A contractual worker went missing in the Hooghly river during movement of a scraper dredger boat at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers on Saturday, a GRSE statement said.

This pertains to an unfortunate accident which occurred at GRSE Main Works on March 23, 2019 during movement of Scraper Dredger Boat. During this exercise one of the contractual worker, working in GRSE on behalf of a Contractor, regretfully has gone missing in the Hooghly River, according to the statement.

Rescue operations using in-house diving services were started immediately after the accident and GRSE has put in all its efforts and resources to find the worker, engaged by a contractor.

Assistance has also been sought from Kolkata Port Trust, Kolkata River Police and National Disaster Response Force.

"Our immediate priority to locate the missing worker," the statement said.
