Mangalore, Mar 1:
The activists of Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India staged a protest in front of Deputy Commissioners office on Saturday condemning the attacks taking place on the student community across the district in the recent days.

A large number of students took part in the demonstration holding placards that read “Break the silence, stop the violence”- the theme of the SIO campaign.

Addressing the protesters, SIO State President Showkat Ali K said the assaults on the innocent did not reflect the capacity of the attackers but their cowardness and weakness. “Violence has never been victorious. It is only love and reconciliation that can win the wars,” he noted.

Referring to the recent incident in Puttur where two members of the organisation were beaten up allegedly by some Hindutva activists, Ali said if the members had followed rules while pasting the posters, they can be fined as per law, but assaulting them is objectionable.

He appealed the police “to be the followers of Constitution, but not the fascist groups”. Speaking on the occasion, Badria PU College Principal Dr N Ismail regretted that despite steep increase in the number of student organisations in the recent years, the unity among them has declined.

“Students need to be united and protest whenever they experience injustice. When some problem arises in the campus, that should be informed to the institution head; instead students themselves should not take actions,” he appealed. “Do the so called guardians of culture know what is the real meaning of Indian culture?” he asked. The protesters submitted a memorandum to the DC later.

There is absolutely no need to organise students on communal lines. Students should not be active in politics. See what is happening in DU. Lakhs of Rs. are spent on elections.

Mr.Harold D'cunha, Mangalore, India, your point is well taken. If past history is a measure of the future, these types of religious groups (whether it is SIMI or Ram Sene) don’t have a good track record. Remember majority of the good Indian citizens (Hindus, Christians, Muslims, or Budhists) don't support these extreme right wing groups.

Dear Readers, SIO is a student organization of Jamath e Islami not SIMI. People who know Jamahath Islami are well aware of this fact. Jamath Islami is modearate face of Islamic fundamentalism. They have more political agenda of Islamic state than purely religious ideology of mujhadeen. .

Students Islamic Organization of India is an ideological organization working in the country for preparing students and youth for the reconstruction of society in the divine guidance. In order to understand SIO it is essential to have a good grasp on its views on Islam, student and organization. The Arabic word Islam signifies peace, dedication and absolute submission. In other words it is the path to peace through complete surrender to God. SIO believes that the real function of education should be to impart genuine knowledge about life, existence and future. A real student is therefore one seeking for the realities about life and universe. SIO believes that the function of the organization should not be to assemble as many people as possible by any means. But it is to transform the cadre into a crop of activists committed to ideals and gifted with inner strength. SIO Aims SIO finds itself committed to impart genuine knowledge and awareness to students and getting them ready to become torchlight of morality and fighters against evils by reinforcing their own life. The organization will also strive for promoting moral values in educational system and better academic and moral atmosphere in educational institutions and to nurture the talents of students in such a way as to benefit the society. Above all, preference will be given to spread the truths as understood by the organization among the most critical group of civil society – students. SIO Works All the above mentioned aims will be striven for only within the limits of morality and constructive – peaceful manner. The organization shall keep away from anything that is contrary to truth and honesty and that may result in communal hatred and class struggle.

It is to be noted that even SIMI has no criminal records in India . Till now no incident has been proved against SIMI involving in crimes or any anti Indian activity. All accusations against them are based on  prejudice , plot and pre plan .. Even Supreme court aquitted them and lifted ban imposed on them .The realities are bitter always.

Kindly note its highly objectionable for someone who does'nt know about SIO to write that SIO is a branch of SIMI. SIO has no history of violence. I request Subhas and Krishna to prove any one incident of violence to SIO. Comments from Krishna and Subhas only shows hatred towards a particular religion and nothing else.

Dear George Cruz, I don’t think there is any need to prove SIO's loyalty to mother India. Why they have to prove - just because members of this organization are Muslims ? Why do you compare SIO with SIMI? I am not a member or sympathizer of SIO, but your demand for a loyalty check really made me puzzling. Please be reminded that the Muslims of India are born citizens of India, they too have equal rights and responsibilities, they too love, respect and honor India / Indians just like or may be even more than what you and others do.

Also dont forget that you are also belonging to Minority, dont write whatever for just get sympathy form hindus..... grow up

Mr. George stop writing non sense.   Muslims in India are Indian and their blood is Indian. Personally I do not agree with SIO protests as it is another religious outfit and based on religion. Any religion organisations affiliation is only to particular religion. On this ground I request the authrities to ban this type of public students meeting and protests in the name of religion.

Dear Dusty, India SIO wishes Peace for all. The meaning of ISLAM = PEACE. What is wrong in using the word ISLAM in the name of an organization which strives for PEACE? Think in the positive approach brother. SIO is an organization respecting the guidlines set by Almighty for the benefit of Human beings.

They do the righteous activities and they never support evil. SIO believes in brotherhood and shares the good with like minded Organizations. Hope your doubt is clarified.

The duty of a Student is to learn, Students should use all their efforts and time to learn and gain knowledge. Besides it is not appropriate to say Islamic organisation (Islam is a highly respected religion and not a organisation) better word would have been Muslim organisation. What ever the intentions of this organisation may be, I suggest all organisation using communal names should not be encouraged.

Instead of having student organizations based on Religion - SIO, DYFI, ABVP... why can't we have a common organization? Most of the current organizations focus on one community and fight against another community - and doesnt fight for student's real problems... Everything now is devided on religion - even the students! This is not a good development ! we should go for a religion/political independent organization !
