CBI arrests two GST officials for demanding bribe


Pune, Mar 26 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two superintendents posted at the GST (goods and services tax) office, here on Monday, for accepting bribe, the CBI said on Tuesday.

The CBI laid a trap and arrested Sanjeev Kumar and Vivek Dekate red-handed for accepting Rs 1 lakh bribe - first instalment of the Rs 3 lakh -- for settling the service tax liability of a complainant.

They have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

"It was alleged in the complaint that the accused had demanded a Rs 3 lakh bribe from the complainant for settling the service tax liability for 2016-17," said a CBI official.

Searches were conducted at office and residential premises of both the accused and documents linked to acquisition of movable and immovable properties, gold jewelleries, cash, computer hard disks and other incriminating documents were seized, the official said.
