49 nomination papers in UP for 1st phase rejected


Lucknow, Mar 26 (IANS): Forty-nine nomination papers for the first round of Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh were declared invalid on Tuesday, officials said.

Of the 146 nomination papers filed for 8 Lok Sabha seats, which would go to polls on April 11, 97 were found accurate.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) L. Venkateshwar Loo said in Saharanpur 9 nomination papers of the 20 filed were rejected due to some discrepancies.

In Kairana, all the 14 nomination papers were found correct, in Muzaffarnagar 12 of the 22 nomination papers were dismissed.

In Bijnore, 3 nomination papers of the total 16 were cancelled, in Meerut 4 of the 15 were rejected and in Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida) 8 nomination papers after scrutiny were found to be incomplete and invalid.

In Ghaziabad, 13 of the 25 nomination papers were cancelled.
