Consulted 'big economists', including Rajan, over income scheme: Rahul

Jaipur, Mar 27 (PTI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday said his party consulted "big economists", including former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan, before it came up with the idea of minimum guaranteed income to the poorest 20 per cent households in the country.

Addressing a meeting of his party workers at the Ramlila ground here, Gandhi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised to transfer Rs 15 lakh to every bank account but did not keep the promise.

"We thought it was a good idea...Rs 15 lakh in bank accounts. But the promise was not fulfilled by Modi. We started our work six months back to make such a thing reality," he said.

He went on to say that his party consulted "all big economists, without telling anyone, without giving any speeches" on the Nyuntam Aay Yojana or Nyay.

"We were engaged in this work for six months. Take the list of all big economists of the world, we consulted them...Raghuram Rajan...one by one," he said.

"First thing, we came to know was that there should be a minimum income line. We calculated and the result was that the minimum income line should be Rs 12,000 per month," he said.

He attacked the BJP, saying it wants a Congress-free India but the Congress will fight it with love and defeat it.

"Ek baar tukka lag gaya 2014 mein, wo alag baat hai (By chance they won in 2014. That was a fluke). Look at Indian history. Whoever spreads hate loses and one who spreads love wins," he said.

Gandhi said his party will fulfil the promise of minimum guaranteed income to the poor.

On Monday, Gandhi had announced in New Delhi that Rs 72,000 per year will be given as minimum income to poor families, benefiting around 25 crore people, if his party is voted to power in Lok Sabha polls, and asserted it will be the "final assault" on poverty.

Gandhi had said 20 per cent or five crore families belonging to the poorest category with monthly income less than Rs 12,000 would come under the scheme.

On Tuesday, he said that if his party comes to power, young entrepreneurs will not require any permission for first three years for running a business, unlike under the Modi government, which he alleged, mandates various permissions and bribe is demanded for granting them.

"Just start your business and after three years, take whatever permission is required," he said. Gandhi said truth is the weapon for Congress workers.

I am totally confused about this pappunomics.
Initially it was said 12000 Rs a month or 72000rs a year will be given, now everyone are busy in correcting the blunderous calculations!

"On Monday, Gandhi had announced in New Delhi that Rs 72,000 per year will be given as minimum income to poor families, benefiting around 25 crore people, if his party is voted to power in Lok Sabha polls, and asserted it will be the "final assault" on poverty".
72000 per annum to 25 crore people ------ 18 lakh Crores a year!!!

"Gandhi had said 20 per cent or five crore families belonging to the poorest category with monthly income less than Rs 12,000 would come under the scheme."
72000 per annum to 5 Crore people --------3,60,000 crores a year!!!

This clearly indicates that Pappu Maharaj has just given a statement like 'aloo se sona nikalna' and now all Congresswalas are trying to correct and plan the scheme to match with his statement!!!!

    Dear Sir,

Governing a nation is not taking the money of hard workers and giving it to others, but empowering everyone to earn their own livelihood. Do not compete with the incompetent politicians distributing rice and sarees, please support and make way to Priyanka or anyone who is more capable in the party.

Whether its "Planning commission" or "NITI Ayog" that just not alone is not going to ensure the success of any economic planning/transform India, but it is the Honest Political Will of the people in governance that makes the difference. Otherwise, like the slogan "Garibi Hatawo", the" Garibi" must have disappeared by this time !

don't fool the people. first of all this scheme wont be implemented bcoz Rahul didn't say from where & how he will get the amount for this scheme. again it is not clear whether this scheme will be implemented by only congress party govt or collation govt. it is very clear that congress wont form the govt as a single party since they wont get so much seat. in that case they wont implement this scheme & give the justification that they don't have the majority to implement the scheme. finally Garibi will continue as we saw in last 70 years.

you may consult any one no issue. you may give monthly 72000 for any one no issue. but for all these free scheme don't use our tax payers money which is being collected for development of this country. instead you may use your party fund or your personal funds.

Now BJP supporters, please answer to this :
Whom did Modi consult before taking such a huge decision like Demonetization ? Did he consult RBI ? Did he discuss it with the Finance Minister ? His cabinet members ? Opposition party ?

Did Modi calculate before offering to bring back the Black Money and distributing @ Rs. 15 Lakh per Indian ? Did he take an assessment of the volume in Swiss banks and if it actually is Black money ? I ask this because its the Finance Minister of India who later on told that 'The money in the Swiss Banks is not ALL BLACK' Did this give vibes to you Modi's supporters that Modi just did parrot singing in his election rallies ? Without having any knowledge of 'how much' money was there or whether its actually black ?

Look BJP supporters, there is a limit to fool people. Now that RG is telling that he consulted the economists before making the offer, you have no choice but to believe him Above all, his supporters to trust him and vote for his party.

    Kumara,

I hope you are reading news that Keralites are the maximum in numbers of Indians returning from the Gulf, jobless. That is because earlier, their state never had job opportunities, any time a factory or an entity started to function, the union will make it miserable to the owners to function. This led to gradual shutting down of businesses and each and every person in workable age left in search of jobs either to other states or outside India.

What do we hear now ? The same people have come back and started self-employment with the money they earned. When this trend is starting from Kerala, there is not question why this should not be with us all the rest of Indians.

There is no need to sit and expect the nation to feed you. Please come back - you are welcome to join us - I assure you, you will not starve, nor the remaining citizens. India, because of its huge population, is the biggest consumer too. We can produce our own consumables.
