364th annual Urs of Shah Jahan begins on April 2


Agra, Mar 27 (IANS): The 364th three-day annual Urs of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, builder of the Taj Mahal, will begin on April 2.

A member of the organising committee, Taahiruddin Taahir, said a 1,221 metre long ceremonial 'chadar' will be offered on April 4 at 3 p.m.

Last year, the length of the 'chadar' was 1,111 metres.

Each year the length and the number of people in the processions and programmes has been going up.

According to the Archaeological Survey of India officials, entry for visitors will be free on all three days for varying periods.

The 17th century monument of love is a world heritage site and is annually visited by over seven million tourists.
