14 killed in road accident in Kenya


Machakos (Kenya), Mar 27 (IANS): Fourteen people were killed and several others injured in a road accident early on Wednesday when a bus rammed onto a stationary truck in Machakos county in eastern Kenya.

A police official said the commuter bus was speeding towards Nairobi when it hit the truck, killing 11 men, two women and a child on the spot at around 5 a.m, reported Xinhua news agency.

An estimated 3,000 Kenyans die in road accidents annually despite concerted efforts by the state and the private sector to promote safety on the highways, according to the National Transport and Safety Authority of Kenya.
